Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard insists Tyrone Mings will have the chance to return to the pitch if he proves himself ready.
“Sing the rising star” defeated Bournemouth 0-2 in the opening game of the Premier League. England on Saturday, with new centre-back Diego Carlos pairing up with Ezry Konza while Mings is the only substitute.
When asked about overlooking Mings, Gerrard said: “I think people might think about that. I think the easy thing to do after a defeat is to look at the people who are not on the pitch. Today we have enough quality to win.”
“I am confident and fully convinced that when Tyrone is back in his best form and looking into my eyes and showing me he is ready to play. he will get a chance He missed some training sessions with injury and had a bit of a problem behind the scenes.”
“That was the challenge I set for him when deciding on the captain. We put that challenge on him, we said to Tyrone. Come back and do your best and you can get back into the team.
“Today we didn’t lose because Tyrone didn’t play, but we want Tyrone back to be in the best shape. He had to clear things up in his head and show on the training ground. That he was back in full swing. I am sure there will be opportunities for him.”
